What helps most

1. The address. A hillside lot in Farragut, a foothills property outside Maryville and a lake home near Lenoir City bring different ground, slopes and access, and the location tells a contractor a lot before the first visit.
2. What you want and roughly how big. A new driveway, a widened parking pad, a patio off the back door, steps down a slope, a shed slab, or replacement of something that has cracked or sunk. Rough length and width are plenty.
3. What will sit on it. Cars only, or a truck, camper, boat trailer, hot tub or workshop equipment. Heavier loads change the base, thickness and reinforcement.
4. What is there now. Grass, gravel, old concrete or asphalt. Removal and haul-off are part of the scope when something has to come out first.

Photos worth taking

A wide shot of the whole area from the street or the back door, so the slope and the surroundings show. Close-ups of any existing cracks, sunken sections or broken edges. And, if you can, a photo during or just after a heavy rain showing where water runs and where it collects. Drainage decides as much about a lasting pour as the concrete itself.

What happens next

A visit to the property. Seeing the ground, the grade and the access for a concrete truck answers questions photos cannot, and it is the point where a real scope and price become possible. Ask for the scope in writing, including base preparation, thickness, reinforcement, joint layout and finish, so any two quotes can be compared line by line.
